Bottom Type Sand

One of the best anchorages in the Turks & Caicos and the only harbor on South Caicos is Cockburn Harbor. Entrance is easy using the channel between Dove Cay & Long Cay. Once inside, turn off to port and carefully feel your way in over the sand bank to anchor in 10 feet or less depending on how far you go in. Because of the vast sand banks on the western side of the island and the land masses of S Caicos and Long Cay, this anchorage is quite comfortable and beautiful as well. Good holding in thick sand. Easy dinghy ride to town bulkheads where you can tie up (ask a fisherman first to make sure you aren't in their way).  You can anchor on the town side also but this spot behind Long Cay is more popular, the holding better and there is virtually no swell. Snorkeling is good around Dove Cay and in the shallows of the anchorage if you like to see conch, helmet shells, triton and rays. There is a mooring buoy slightly off to the west from the anchorage that marks a patch reef with lots of fish on it. There is a  new self serve laundromat in town right near the wharf. Buy tokens at the supermarket at the top of the small hill (turn left off the wharf).

Features
  • Small supermarkets
  • Sea View Marina & Supermarket
  • There are beaches on S Caicos- a but of a hike to get to them though
  • Port of entry/exit
