Pearl Bay lies between Port Clinton and
Island Head Creek on the Capricornia Coast and is within daysail
reach of Gt Keppel Island so makes for a good stop-over. It is
protected from SW to S winds and also gives good enough protection
from SE wind however, expect swell. The bottom is sand and there is a
pretty beach and cliff scenery. Approach is relatively
straightforward but there can be a good sized following sea in SE
wind as we experienced. The channel in to the anchorage as you round
the headland has a least depth of 3 meters in one spot although most
of it is much deeper. Be aware of the reef that juts out from the
small island to the north of the anchorage. Pearl Bay is part of the
Shoalwater Bay Military Exercise Area & according to the chart it
can always be used as a refuge in inclement weather.
