This anchorage is off to the port side
of the main shipping channel coming up the Burnett River. It is
often referred to as Bundaberg but the actual town of Bundaberg is
much further up the river. Four waypoints, provided by Australia
Customs, form a box of water with approx 12-15 feet of depth, good
holding. In 2014, it was acceptable to anchor here while awaiting
business hours to check in as long as you don't leave the boat. It
also makes for a decent stopover anchorage if you don't want to pull
into Bundaberg Port Marina. There is a small beach a little further
up the channel on the left just before you get to the marina where
you can tie the dinghy. Walk up to the bike path and head east to go
to an IGA grocery store/PO/liquor store in the town of Burnett Heads,
or head west toward the marina complex. This anchorage is protected
except in east winds but expect a fair amount of current. The channel
is very well lit and well used by ships heading to & from
Bundaberg. The marina has excellent facilities & is friendly to
anchored boats.
