Palau Karimata is the largest of this small chain of islands off the
west coast of Borneo. Home to cave swiftlets whose nests are harvested
for Birds nest soup, Karimata also has arear of mangroves, rainforest
and scrublands. There are a number of small coastal villages, Padang
being the largest. Designated as a nature preserve but not officially
managed.
