Middle Percy Island is part of the
Northumberland Island Group and is approximately 40 miles N/NW of
Pearl Bay. West Bay is a popular stop enroute to & from the
Whitsunday islands and has an interesting history of hospitality
toward sailors. Andrew Martin leased the island for many years until
his death in 2010. He built the A frame structure that has become an
iconic structure for passing sailors. Filled with memorabilia left by
hundreds of cruisers, it is a museum as well as a pleasant gathering
place. The island is still leased and the current occupants live at
the Homestead but it is also conserved by Queensland Parks and is
open to the public. There are walking tracks (info is in the A frame
and signs nearby), a guest book and locally produced honey for sale.
The anchorage is subject to roll,
especially in a developed SE wind. The holding is good in sand. It is
easy to beach the dinghy ashore.
