Lavrion (Lavrio) is a town & port south of Athens on the Attica Peninsula. It has a breakwater with inner lagoon where med-moor style berthing can be had. Check in with the port authority or ask around on the pier if in need of a berth. This is a popular charter boat area in the summer months. Haul out facilities are available from the town as well as Olympic Marina, which is close by. This harbor is subject to a surge in south winds. There are also some ferry wakes. The town offers many restaurants, 2 large grocery stores, bakeries & a fish market, all with a small town vibe. There is a laundry in town. There is great walking on the hillsides visible from the harbor. Much of these hillsides are national park with ruin sites from mining years ago. Sounio, a national park consisting of several archaeological sites including the temple of Poseidon, is close to Lavrion. Frequent bus service is available to the airport (1:15 minutes) and to downtown Athens.
