Bouregreg Marina is in the
capitol city of Rabat. It is part of a modern, residential &
commercial area that is quite nice and the marina is very protected
both from wind & wave as well as from a security standpoint. The
Royal family uses this marina for their own boats and thus it is well
secured. This is a popular stop for boats traveling to & from the
Canaries and is well worth the effort. Entrance to the river is
gained by going through a couple of sets of breakwaters and it is
best to radio the marina on VHF 10 when you are 1 mile out and they
will come out in a small powerboat to lead you in- this is the
routine. The entry is not safe in heavy weather or swell greater than
2 meters as the entrance breaks. Depths were >4m in 10/2017 at the
entrance even at 2 hrs before LW. See survey we took for this entrance. They will first lead you to the
welcome dock for check-in and then escort you to your berth. The
marina is located just before the highway bridge on the port side.
Berths are unusually wide, one boat to a berth with short finger
piers on either side. Power & water included w/ berth fee. Rabat
is 1 hr earlier than Spain.
Rabat is a great town to
explore with several monuments, a modest sized medina and the marina
complex offers many restaurants, shops and a promenade. The airport
is only a few miles away, taxis are easy to get and we rented a car
for 2 weeks from the airport. Traveling in Morocco is great fun and
the tourist infrastructure and roads are good although defensive
driving is important here. Fez is not too far away and highly
recommended as the medina is fascinating! You can get to other cities bt train as well. The Rabat Zoo is modern, interesting & inexpensive.
