Bottom Type Sand

This is a new anchorage on the mainland behind 'The Pyramid' in the remote SW Tasmania.  There is a 'published' anchorage at the Pyramid but this was untenable for us (swell, wind, kelp and seal colony (smell/noise), so we motored 1 km SE towards the beach and found a fantastic clean, open anchorage which is protected from N-SW winds. Check the swell angle not in the NSW.  Great stop over between Port Davey and Macquarie Harbour (Hells Gate).  We surveyed the whole area (1 nm x 500 m) and this is now on Navonics charts.  A few rocks around but obvious and lots of open sand area's. Note: do not anchor close to the beach if the swell comes up you are in trouble.

Features
  • Nice long ocean beach
  • Walking and rock climbing
