A beautiful spot with crystal clear blue water and an attractive shoreline but unfortunately, the anchorage is filled with coral bommies so you won't feel completely at ease here. Nonetheless, it is a common place to anchor and is protected from S-NE but is wide open to the western quadrants. Try to find a sandy patch and anchor in approx 38 feet of water. There are some shallow coral heads & reef to either side of the entrance to the anchorage but the path is wide and easy in good light. There are also a couple more inside the anchorage. There's a ledge like beach to pull the dinghy up on and the island road passes right along the shore. The snorkeling & scuba along the southern side of the anchorage headed out toward the point is fantastic with underwater caves, great vis, and plenty to see. It was unclear who to ask for permission to dive as we were told by a French boat living in the anchorage that the bay is under dispute by local chiefs. No one approached us and the locals were friendly ashore. For a nice walk, head southeast on the main road and turn right at the sign for Nengone Village Hotel access road. This is a nice resort with friendly staff. We got cold drinks here and sat in comfy chairs before continuing on. Ask for directions to the trailhead back to Pede. This coastal trail is about 3km long and ends right at the beach in front of the anchorage. At first, it follows along one beautiful beach after another before turning inland toward Pede. When it turns inland, you'll begin to see red spray painted blazes. Follow these to Pede Beach.
