Najar Ujong is an anchorage along the
north side of Flores, about 35 miles from Maumere and makes for a
logical pit stop before continuing east or west. It isn't a
destination otherwise. There is a steam power plant on shore, a
small, coastal village and a long beach. The approach is
straightforward- just proceed toward the beach from the north. Anchor
in black sand in approx 25-30 feet or whatever depth you choose. When
we were here, the water wasn't particularly clear and although the
wind was calm, the ocean swell was annoying. Nonetheless, it served
its purpose.
