Kelimutu is probably Flores' most popular tourist attraction. It houses the Tri-colored Lakes which are 3 volcanic lakes that have changed color many times over the years due to changing mineral deposits that are dissolved in the water. In 2015, one lake was turquoise, one an icy light blue and th eother dark green. Surrounding the lakes is a beautiful, stark landscape of colorful rocks, green mountains in the distance, and cool, clean air. There are a few little paths & a staircase to lookouts for views & pictures. The park was very clean, quiet and well preserved.

Part of the long trip there is seeing the landscape along the way such as a waterfall, rice paddies, mountain views. It took approx 3 hours by car from Maumere (arranged at Sea World Resort, Maumere) and there are other anchorages where a trip can be arranged such as Maurole. You can do it in a long day or you can spend the night in Moni, the closest town to Kelimutu. There is a lot of info online and in tourist resources. This was a highlight of our time in Indonesia and a welcome change of scenery.
