If you're visiting Belitung and you'd like to see something unique, arrange a car to take you to the Belitung Tarsier Reserve. The tarsier is the smallest species of monkey and they are only found in Asia. They are nocturnal carnivores and have huge eyes and very grippy toes for hanging on to tree trunks and branches. The Belitung species apparently mates for life and they communicate in the ultrasonic frequency range. They are endangered due to habitat destruction and this preserve was established to try to learn more about and protect them. You can see at least one while visiting the preserve- his name is Benji. You actually go into the cage with him. There is a nominal fee for the reserve.
