Garachico is a special place and worth the effort to get to. It is situated on the northern part of Tenerife which is the exposed side of the island with high cliffs and constant wave action. But this didn't stop the town from building a new, beautiful marina (the newest marina on the island) and creating what feels like a fortress inside, protected from the waves. The end of the mole is graced with a white sculpture and on approach, you want to head in straight from sea, to the channel formed by 2 red buoys keeping the mole close to starboard to avoid the rocky coast line and reefs/large boulders that come quite a ways out. The channel is narrow and should not be attempted in heavy weather or swell of 3 meters or more because the sea will be breaking. Contact the marina if in doubt and they can advise. Run by Puertos Canarios, this marina is very affordable and much loved by the local fishing fleet & townspeople who use it as a place for exercise walks, strolls and just plain enjoying the vast paved & landscaped area. Fingerpiers, basic portable showers & toilets ashore and a marina office. No established haulout although there is a ramp and a space for a Travelift in the future. The attractive and historic town is reachable by a  seaside walkway. Once the most significant town on Tenerife, it was destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 1705 that also filled in the harbor with lava, destroying that too. There are a handful of restaurants, a small grocery, a tourist office, great pools formed by the lava flow, a trail up the side of the cliffs that follows the path of the lava (this can be an all day hike) and some museums centered around a beautiful old town square.
Use the solicitudestf@puertoscanarios.es to book a berth or call the marina directly.
