A popular anchorage in Mindelo that offers good protection in all but infrequent westerly winds. Some swell can be felt nearly always but it's not too bad, especially if tucked far enough inside to get protection from the breakwater. Approach is easy however it is best to arrive in daylight. There are some derelict ships and sunken vessels in the harbor. We found the holding to be good however it has been reported by others to be variable and because this harbor is subject to frequent wind gusts, be sure your anchor is well set. Not sure what the bottom is; our anchor came up clean. We had 30kt gusts on approach near the breakwater so be ready!
You can safely tie your dinghy up & dispose of trash at Marina Mindelo at the Floating Bistro. It's currently 4 Eu/day (or less for longer stays). Free wifi at the Bistro. Plenty of shops and restaurants on shore, provisioning, small ship chandlery at marina. Laundry available- see Marina Mindelo marker or listing under "Places" associated with this area.
