This dive is located on the outside of the reef that forms the south end of the Awei Island anchorage. From the anchorage on a rising tide, you can dinghy over the shallows and make your way around the outer reef edge by heading a little southeast to avoid the shallowest part. Alternatively, with a good dinghy, you can go around Awei island & out to avoid the shallows which we did on the way out, then came over the reef on the way back. There are a couple of shallow bits of reef structure (15-20 feet) on the outside at the dive waypoint to place the dinghy anchor safely. There were plenty of dead spots without live coral for the anchor chain to lie on. We found the best coral & formations between 25-40 feet although we dove to 60 feet. There were indentations in the reef that formed corridors to swim up into that were full of color. There was a school of large sweetlips. Visibility was good & we didn't note much of any current. It would be optimal on a calm day due to the southern exposure but the waves were manageable in the conditions we had- windy!
