Asanvari is a unique anchorage because it has a waterfall pouring into the harbor. If you anchor close to it, you'll hear the waterfall the whole time you're there. The water is very clear even though it looks dark from the surface and although much of the coral in the anchorage is dead, it isn't a bad place to get in the water and look around. Anchorage spot: in 35 feet on black sand with smallish (up to 1 meter across) rocks sprinkled over sand. Good holding but there will be noise from the anchor rubbing on rocks. Beware of a few bommies around the periphery of the anchorage and a large bommie at the western end of the anchorage. You can snorkel on this one- not much coral but lots of fish. At the time we visited, there were 2 moorings for $500 Vatu/day but we didn't try them. The local people were very friendly & helpful if approached. This is a very quiet place, both times we've been here. The Asanvari Yacht Club is there if somewhat aged, but there was nothing really going on. We were able to buy handmade bags from the local ladies & there were some carved canoes & selected vegetables available for purchase. A new business has just begun 8/2013 at the base of the Lavoa Cascade Waterfall called Sparkling Waters Bar & Restaurant. They sell Tusker beer and offer treks to local sites. There is a beach trail and sitting area. It was 500 Vatu entrance fee for use of this site that covers you for the length of your stay at Asanvari Bay. The village appears to be gearing up for more tourism by making little paths around the village and to the windwardside beach.
