Oriental is a welcoming, picturesque little town just off the ICW with a well marked channel that carries at least 9 feet to and around the breakwater. Once inside, approaching the docks, the water shoals to 6 feet or less in soft mud. Anchoring behind the breakwater is popular and accepted. Be careful not to go too far in outside the channel as the water shoals. There are two free dinghy docks- one visible from the anchorage with a yellow stripe around the perimeter, and another one at the head of the channel inside. There is rubbish disposal and recycling. We found the holding to be good in about 9 feet. There are also a couple of free berths for use up to 48hrs. They are marked with yellow & blue striped paint and are just next to the shrimp boats, also adjacent to Oriental Marina and reportedly carry 6 feet.
