Sea World Resort is a nice base for visiting Maumere because it is close enough to the city to get supplies but not right downtown. The resort welcomes visiting yachts and offers services such as laundry, meals, tours, happy hour from 4-6pm and a nice beach to land the dinghy. Fuel is also available through resort staff who work on the side and through locals who might visit you in the anchorage offering their services. They also have a dive shoppe.
The anchorage is generally good in the SE monsoon although there can be an onshore breeze in the afternoon. Holding is OK in sand with some rubble in shallower depths. At low tide, a considerable amount of reef is exposed close to shore. You can choose your anchoring depth to some extent however the bottom does have a considerable downward slope and depths of 75 or more feet can be expected if there are several boats in here.
It is easy to get a bus, ojek or arrange private transpotration through the resort to get into Maumere where most things are available.
You can also visit the tri-colored lakes of Kelimutu on a long (3 hours each way) day trip from here.
