Description (0)
This volcano is easily accessed from
the Wodong anchorage (about a 25 minute motorbike ride each way) but
you can get to it from Maumere also. It is best to get to the
trailhead via motorbike rather than a car because the access road is
in poor condition. Sunset Cottages and Ankermi Resort in the Wodong
anchorage can help arrange a motorbike. The trailhead begins right at
the roadside on the left but it isn't marked. Once on it, it is easy
to follow and there are blazes & cairns to help you. There are
awesome views of the island, the Wodong anchorage and the volcano
itself. At the summit, there are bright yellow sulfur vents, noisy
steam fumaroles and interesting volcanic scenery. It takes about 2-3
hours each way depending on hiking speed. It is best done in the
morning before clouds form. Be sure to bring plenty of water. The
access road that you came up to get to the trailhead is pleasant
walking also and you can grab a motorbike ride back from the village
that is approx 3km down hill.
