Wodong is 11 miles east of Maumere and has a couple of interesting things to do. The approach is clear from the north but don't hug the shore from either direction because there is a reef that runs along it. The slope toward the beach is gradual and the holding was excellent in black sand. During the SE monsoon, the anchorage is calm at night but during the day, there can be an onshore breeze that brings waves into the anchorage making it bumpy but it didn't feel unsafe.

There is no village here (no supplies) but the coastal road runs right by the anchorage and there are buses to town. There are a few guesthouses and the black sand beach offers some walking opportunities. The Bali style Ankermi Dive Resort has a small wharf accessible at high tide (for reference) and you can beach the dinghy on the sand in front of the anchorage. Ankermi was a nice place to book some diving to see the area and the prices were very reasonable. There are also 2 scuba dives that you can do right in the anchorage. One is an old Japanese boat and the other a muck dive looking for macro creatures.

Both Sunset Cottages (just west of Ankermi Resort) and Ankermi can help with arranging motorbike transport up to the trailhead for Mt Egon volcano. The trail is only about 25 minutes away on motorbike and another 2-3 hours hike to the summit. It is a well maintained trail with great views and an interesting top with steaming fumaroles, noisy sulphur vents and lots of colorful cliffy rocks. Even the upper reaches of the access road make for decent walking. You can see your boat at anchor far below you as you climb up! It is easy to prearrange transport back or get it when needed from the village that is a couple of km downhill from the trailhead on the access road.
