One of few places left where you truly can do your own work on your boat, Green Cove Springs Marina is approximately 43 miles up the St John's River, just south of Jacksonville. It occupies a few old Navy piers and is about a mile from the town of Green Cove Springs. Full of eclectic livaboards, there is quite a community here and the prices of the marina are affordable which support this type of living. People are friendly and helpful. Many cruising boats use this marina as a good off season out of the water storage spot and the two travelifts are kept busy moving boats in & out of the cramped yard. Nearly all of the berths are reserved for long term liveaboards but there are almost always moorings available with dinghy dock for getting ashore. The water is very brown with tannins. There are lots of options here for getting help with things like welding & machine shops and you can find almost anything in Jacksonville. You need a bike or car to get around as the marina is not right in town. The town is nice & green and reminiscent of old Florida. There is also RV storage here.
