This is a calm, protected anchorage within walking/taxi distance from the CBD. Approach is made by going under the 27m Anzac Bridge and through the eastern span of the permanently open Glebe Island swing bridge. There are yellow buoys marking the anchorage and you should stay inside of these marks. It isn't a huge anchorage but there were 5 boats here when we visited. Depth is approx 11 feet in mud. Our anchor was very well set but we heard that another boat dragged anchor here. Nice dinghy dock in the anchorage & rubbish bins nearby. A multi-use park path runs along the shore. You can see the Sydney Fish Market and they have both raw seafood for purchase as well as several places to get cooked seafood, produce and cheeses. There are 2 marinas in the vicinity. Broadway Shopping Center (with Cole's Supermarket) is about a 15 minute walk from anchorage. Bus info: It's a reasonable walk from Blackwattle Bay to Cockle Bay/Darling Harbour via Pyrmont Bridge Road. To get to the Rocks, Circular Quay and/or the Opera House, it's a bit further afield, but there are bus options. First, one can walk to George Street (a short distance beyond Darling Harbour) and catch the FREE bus (#555), which runs along George Street between Circular Quay & Central Station. To take a bus from Blackwattle Bay, the easiest one to catch is the Glebe Point Road Bus (#431) . From the anchorage, walk up Cook Street to Glebe Point Road and the closest bus stop is just to your left. The 431 also runs up George Street and goes all the way to the Rocks. To get home, you can take the 431, but if you want to stop at the fish market to pick something up for dinner, a better alternative is the Pyrmont Bus (#443). All of these buses run frequently. Buses & timetables are available at www.sydneybuses.com.
