Bonifacio is an unforgettable, lovely,
natural harbor on the S side of Corsica. It is in a calanque- a
natural slit in the limestone cliffs that surround it and it is a
very good harbor. Be careful on your approach as it is very busy,
with ferries coming & going and the opening is relatively narrow
and when it's windy, there is quite a chop at the entrance. You
cannot anchor in the harbor but you can med moor to the cliffs in the
second small inlet on your port side as you enter the harbor. It is
called Calanque de la Catena & there is a large sign at the
entrance. The moorings are run by the marina 25 Euros/night. Call the authorities/marina staff on VHF 9 or 12 for help
tying up. There are mooring lines & rings on the cliffs ashore to
tie to.
The town is great with lots to do and
plenty of resturants, grocery stores and history to explore. There's
an info center. It is a touristy spot but the yachting scene is huge
here too.
