Years ago, some locals placed a few pigs on the island of Big Majors Spot. It became common for cruisers to visit them and give them their produce scraps (always trying to find a good home for produce scraps to minimize our trash impact). The pigs started swimming out to arriving dinghies to get the food sooner and before you know it... the swimming pigs were born! Now it is quite a spectacle and has become commercialized in a way but it is still fun to see them. What used to be just pigs on the beach is now a tour boat destination from Staniel and other cays and the pigs have shelter, water, tags, names and there are signs to beware that these are still wild animals and they could bite you in the butt when you're not looking! In case you wouldn't know that for yourself...
