Tin Can Bay is the name of a small town part way up Tin Can Inlet on Snapper Creek. It is also the name of the bay that is just inside Wide Bay Bar. Although Tin Can Bay town is 5 miles up river from Pelican Bay, the anchorage is much more protected and the town has many things to offer. This waypoint is outside of the local moorings in approx 20 feet, good holding. It provides good protection in E-SE winds but you could find protection in most any direction wind by moving around the anchorage. Expect current. There is a marked channel in to Snapper Creek but anchoring inside the creek is not allowed. Tie the dinghy up to the town wharf beside the coast guard station. They have info & waypoints for Wide Bay Bar. There is a dumpster for rubbish disposal, an IGA grocery store within easy walking distance, library with wifi and a nicely done coastal trail. There are cafes, the Tin Can Bay Marina (which seems to deal mostly with small boats) & a small marine store at the marina. Tin Can Bay is popular for dolphin feeding. Barnacles Dolphin Center is at the head of the dock and does daily dolphin feeding from their beach when the dolphin are in the harbor. They charge $5pp to participate.
