While this won't be the most scenic nor calm anchorage you've ever been to, it is a good staging or finishing point for crossing Wide Bay Bar. We anchored in 10 feet of sand after a few tries to get the anchor to hold. Because there is a lot of current here, the bottom could be scoured. If your draft allows, you could proceed further in to the bay but there are significant shoals in Pelican Bay that dry at low tide. We were here in 20-25kts SE wind and aside from being pinned against the current, the waves remained small and motion calm. Ferries run to Bullock Point Jetty. We landed the dinghy there to go for a walk in the Inskip Point Recreation Area. Overall, this anchorage is not great but serves it's purpose.
