This is a popular anchorage because it offers good protection and is a convenient stop either going north or south in the Great Sandy Straits. The shallowest sections of the straights that you have to time with the tide are just north of this anchorage. The channel that forms the anchorage is well marked and at low tide, there are sandbanks everywhere so watch your chart! We found the holding to be good in sand although there are most likely some muddy spots too. Lots of current. There is park access to Fraser Island here with some picnic tables, an information sign and a sand road that leads inland. We walked this road for 2 hours each way and didn't reach any specific points of interest other than wooded areas & some views- the sand is firm enough to make walking easy & there were lots of birds. Bring some bug repellent.

small beach
Use the sand road that heads inland on Fraser Island. It is firm enough for good walking.
