Bottom Type Sand

Bauer Bay is on the north side of South Molle Island. The main reason to come here is to access the lovely hiking trails for Molle Islands National Park. The anchorage is protected from SW-E although expect some swell if wind is from the east. It is also reported that it can have wind gusts. The holding is good in sandy mud in approx 20 feet. The island once had a thriving resort that was heavily damaged years ago by a cyclone. Now, as of 2015, the resort is partially open for a backpacker destination. We were made welcome by a staff member we met ashore. You can land the dinghy at the long wharf, walk through the resort to the golf course and at the back of the course there are signs for Molle Islands Park- the trailhead is there. The trails are beautifully maintained, marked, wide and grassy, with truly spectacular views. You can hike to Spion Kop- a rock hill visible from the anchorage, to Mt Jeffries, to 2 different beaches, a balancing rock and to the Horn.
