A cute village 20 miles upstream on the Guadiana River right across from Sanlucar on the Spain side. This is a unique opportunity to visit two towns at once in two different countries in a river setting. Beware, summers can be HOT! Popular for wintering over and for storage of boats on summer moorings. There is plenty of space to anchor just down from the town (good holding mud but be aware of strong currents) or pull alongside the town docks- the middle dock is reserved for tourist boats. Also, the basin immediately in front of the two towns is meant to be left open for turning room and a box of sorts is marked out with red & green marks. Use the boat ramp to land the dinghy. Remember the tide is several feet even this far up the river. There is a small river museum, the fort, a church, several restaurants, great walking and a pedestrian ferry that runs back and forth across the river. Just up the river, there is a side channel where the town's "beach" is- called the Praia Fluvial. It is signposted in town.

Features
  • The road that heads south from Alcoutim along the river is perfect to bike on
