Hole In The Wall is a popular spot
reached by a navigable creek west of Palau Langguan on the northeast
side of Langkawi. Filled with mangrove creeks and beautiful views of
limestone rock formations, this is a very protected, picturesque
anchorage if you don't mind a fair amount of daytime tour boat
traffic. We anchored in 20 feet of good holding mud as far to the
side of the channel as we could get, not too far inside the opening.
Proceeding further up the channel, there is another creek leading off
to starboard that has moorings for rent, a floating restaurant and a
fish farm. This whole area seems to cater to tourists on local day
boats. For mangrove creek dinghy exploration, just follow any one of
the tour boats to see where they go. Going further up river past the
floating restaurant and moorings, you will come to a blasted opening
through the rock where you can pass and continue further as far as
you like. Sea birds are commonly fed by tour boat operators in the
more open areas of the creeks and you can watch them dive to scoop up
the food from the water. There are miles & miles of mangrove
channels to explore in here!
