Ilot Maitre is part of the Southern Lagoon Reserve. The Southern Province has placed several sturdy moorings here to protect the coral. Approach is made from the west side of the island as there is a large barrier reef on all other sides. A popular place on weekends, protection is good in S-E winds. There is a resort on the island and a long wharf. Reportedly, snorkeling is good.
