Description (0)
Aiguille de Prony (the Needle of Prony) is an interesting natural formation in the Bay of Prony. Caused by a chemical reaction of the mixing of thermal, mineral rich water with sea water, an unusual landscaped pinnacle has developed complete with stalagmites that glow in the greenish water. The base is at 38 meters and rises to within 2 meters of the surface. There is a large buoy that marks the site where you can tie up. On a clear day, perhaps you can see the top of the pinnacle from the surface but more likely, you will have to swim over to it before you descend as the water isn't very clear. From the buoy, head about 50 feet to the East and you should see it. Descend to whatever water temp you can stand (it is cold down there!) and start circling the pinnacle. You'll see large fish, many bivalves, nudibranchs, octopus, very "otherworldly" formations resembling melted candlewax towers, castles or spires... It is a unique dive site and worth doing if you don't mind the cool water and limited vis- approx 20-30 feet when we were there once below the surface.
