Ao Chalong is a major check-in spot for
vessels that have arrived from Langkawi. The bay is easy to enter but
do keep a close eye on the charts especially as you approach the
anchorage. There are some shallow spots and venturing too close in is
not recommended because of the potential for hitting an unmarked
mooring block or wreck. Holding is great in mud which is good because
in the NE monsoon, the bay can get choppy.
You can tie the dinghy in the inner
basin on the left side of the long wharf. The one-stop check-in is in
the oval style building at the top of the dinghy ramp- visible from the
anchorage. Leave AIS on when you go in so that it can be verified.
Pink buses run up & down the wharf if you don't want to walk to
shore. There is a fuel dock although you probably wouldn't want to put your yacht up against it. In town, there are taxi's, car &
motorbike rentals and many restaurants and dive shops. Cholamark
Inflatable shop sells dinghies & does repair. Chalong Circle is a
short walk away and from there, 5 roads branch out in different
directions. If you take the second road to the right if coming from
Chalong Bay, there is a mall with Villa Market grocery store on the
left a few meters down, a very nice store with good selection.
