If you have a fast dinghy, you can visit a beautiful blue hole located on Malo Island from the Ratua Island anchorage. This requires crossing the Malo Passage with its associated current & tide rips so is best done on a calm day, preferably close to slack tide. You'll also want to time your trip up the river to the blue hole around a high tide so that you have plenty of water in the river. The waypoint places you at the river entrance. When you come to the first fork right away, bear right. If you go left, you'll head back out to the channel again. Follow the river past an old bridge, continue on until you get to a large, shallow, open area of the river. You might see a few small sticks in the water which the locals may use to indicate deeper water but it is all pretty shallow. Here, you want to head fairly sharply left and follow a narrow, relatively shallow, mangrove lined channel. You might notice the foliage turning brighter green and lusher as you approach the narrowest part of the little channel before it opens up to the blue hole. In the very end you'll be ducking branches as you pass but then, lo and behold, a pretty blue hole will appear that's great for a swim. If you'd rather be guided, the resort offers tours to this pretty spot.
