This anchorage is right off the Beach Front Resort, just west of the town. It is exposed to E & SE winds and a fairly good chop will be noticed when the wind is up but both times we've been here it has been pleasant enough. Holding is very good in sand in about 20-30 feet. Beach Front Resort welcomes cruisers and has a happy hour and restaurant, laundry service and you can pull the dinghy up on their beach where there is also a water spigot. They have wifi also. Access to downtown by dinghy is not the easiest, but is doable. You can go up the river (be mindful of the bar at low tide) and tie up to a fallen tree in front of the produce market (there is no dock) a little ways up on the right side or continue eastward past the river, to tie up at Santo Hardware's dock but once again, there is a reef that runs right in front of Santo Hardware so you must continue past it to the concrete pier that sticks out and then pass close in to this pier where there is a deep water cut before turning into the small boat mooring field where the dock & ramp is. It is often a bumpy ride in as it is upwind. You could also get a bus from Beachfront as the walk in to town is quite long. But Luganville does have facilities to re-provision, customs/immigration, banks, restaurants and touring possibilities.
