Pantai Merah is a pretty little beach
within Komodo Nat'l Park that is popular with day trip boats because
the sand has a pink tinge from red coral fragments and it is just a
pretty spot overall. It has shallow snorkeling opportunities, a
shaded gazebo and 2 little paths that go up the hills on either side
of the beach that are good for views and photos. Komodo Island does
have dragons however the trails were well worn so perhaps they aren't
in residence here! The visibility for snorkeling can vary depending
on the state of the tide. There are a couple of moorings here but
they're likely to be taken by tour boats. There is another mooring
just around the point of Toro Lia (give the point some room if you
are moving around it), still very close to the pink beach. Anchoring
is prohibited at this beach as indicated by signs on shore. There
were reportedly 2 more moorings off the NW side of Punja Island but
they weren't there when we visited. And there is no anchoring off of
Punja either.
Features
Short trails to viewpoints. Be aware of dragons, though these trails are commonly walked.
