The Loh Buaya ranger station is a very
popular place to see Komodo Dragons and many day tour boats come
here. It is very common for cruising boats to come in and anchor as
well, and it is a very protected spot. Try to come in with good light
and stay in the center of the channel. Anchor off to the side to
leave room for the many comings & goings of tour boats. The
holding is pretty good in mud. Watch for the reef edges when picking
your anchoring spot. There is space to tie your dinghy at the dock.
When you go ashore, you'll likely be met by a ranger and then
escorted to the station, several hundred meters in (for your safety
from dragons!) and you can pay your fees there and arrange a
tour/hike for the same day or the following morning at 630am if you
like. Dragons are more active in the morning & it is cooler.
Several dragons hang out at the ranger station. You can also see
monkeys, deer and the megapode bird.
